Living Exceptional Days
It’s amazing what can happen in the course of a day:
- Friends become husband and wife.
- Babies are welcomed into the world.
- Someone once unemployed gets a new job.
- An author’s book is finally published.
- A daughter speaks words of forgiveness to her mother.
- A woman sits down on a bus and ignites a civil rights
movement. - Troops storm the beaches of Normandy and redirect
the course of history. - Jessica Watson enters Sydney Harbor as the youngest
person to ever sail around the globe.
But remember: while all these events mark a sudden and
official shift in one day, what goes uncelebrated are the years
and years of purpose and focus that made those monumental
days possible.
A published book is the result of endless study, writing,
and editing.
A new job comes only after years of education, résumé
writing, and job interviews.
When Rosa Parks got on that bus, her history of involve-
ment in the Montgomery NAACP and her training in nonviolent
resistance at the Highlander Folk School had prepared her for
that moment and all the moments that followed.
Troops practiced the invasion of Normandy for months
and months prior to June 6, 1944.
