once established, require minimal energy. They put our brains
and willpower on autopilot. So the more good things we can
turn into habits, the more we can save our decision- making for
other parts of our lives. And as we grow our habits (and build
good ones), we gradually develop into the people we long to be.
Our character is the sum of our habits— which is why
Hello Mornings encourages a morning habit.
Let’s make starting our day at the throne of God our
default. Let’s make living intentionally our habit. Let’s make
healthy choices our norm. Let’s make small, simple steps an
essential element in living an exceptional life.
Author Anthony Trollope wrote, “A small daily task, if it
be really daily, will beat the labors of a spasmodic Hercules.”^2
If that isn’t the best phrase ever, I don’t know what is. I
can certainly relate to being a spasmodic Hercules. It tends to
hit me around January 1, when the New Year’s resolution dis-
cussion is at its fever pitch. I get carried away and make plans
that I could never manage in the long term. My spasmodic
Hercules resolutions leave me on February’s curb like an after-
midnight Cinderella.
How can we take what we’ve learned about ourselves and
the core Hello Mornings concepts and put them into practice?
We simply have to incorporate the three essential activities of
God time, Plan time, and Move time into our daily routine.
