YOGA FOR BEGINNERS
However, the biggest guiding principle of Ayurvedic
eating is based on one’s unique mind-body type. There are
three mind-body types in Ayurveda:
KAPHA: Typically the largest body type. Kapha types tend
to be very loyal. It is recommended that they reduce
oils and fats, sweets, and salt due to sluggish digestion.
Instead the focus of their diet should be on spices and
eating lots of veggies and high-fiber foods.
PITTA: Medium build, muscular. Pitta types tend to be
focused and ambitious. They should avoid hot spices,
alcohol, coffee, vinegar, and acidic foods. They should
consume sweet, juicy fruits like mangoes and melons
and lots of veggies with high water content—cucumbers,
lettuce, and kale should be the focus of their diet.
VATA: Most slender body type. Vata types tend to be cre-
ative and enjoy change. They should avoid dry, crunchy
foods; carbonated beverages; and cold, raw veggies.
Warm foods—soup, cooked cereal, nuts, cooked veggies,
and hot milk—should be a big part of their diet.
If after reading these you are curious to find your exact
body type, there are many Ayurvedic quizzes online that can
help you determine your constitution.
Raw Food
Raw foodists believe that cooking food destroys essential
enzymes. Those following the raw food diet eat uncooked,
unprocessed, and mostly organic foods. This includes raw
fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains.
