THE ESSENTIAL YOGA POSES
- From Mountain pose,
turn your palms to face
away from you. Reach
through your fi ngertips.
- Keep your elbows
straight and slowly circle
arms up overhead. Bring
your palms together to
touch above you, slightly in
front of your head.
- Stand up tall. Spin your
inner thighs toward the
wall behind you and draw
your navel in.
GAZE: Up toward the space
between your hands
PRECEDING POSES:
Mountain pose, Savasana
COUNTERPOSES: Standing
Forward Fold, Down Dog
PRECAUTIONS: If you have
any shoulder issues, keep a
little bend in your elbows or
do not lift your arms at all.
TIP: If your palms do not yet
touch with straight arms ,
stop at the p oint where your
elb ows want to bend. Then ,
keep working on straightening
through your elb ows and reaching
through your finger tips. This
will help open your shoulders ,
and one day your palms will
touch with straight arms.
