Prayers of Charles Spurgeon 91
Set readings
We have not seen you and so must rest in faith alone; but we believe
that you came to earth, lived and died, that you were buried and on
the third day rose again from the dead; and that you have gone into
glory and will shortly come again to take your people to live with you;
come quickly Lord Jesus. Meanwhile our spirit bows in lowly and
loving reverence. With all the shining ranks of angels above, we adore
you, the Lamb in the centre of the throne, as God over all, blessed for
ever. Amen.^299

Free prayer, or...
Eternal God, I pray for myself and for those dear to me......
Lord, all godly graces are the work of your Spirit; I call to you,
through Jesus’ blood, to create them in me. Amen.^300
I pray for my community and neighbours......
Come rushing wind, come sacred fire, come, Lord, with all your
conquering grace and turn rebellious hearts to Jesus, so they may
know that you love truth.^301
I pray for my church and the church of Jesus Christ in all places...
Lord, deal tenderly with your people. Dear Shepherd, you never
drive. It is said that you carry the lambs in your arms and gently
lead those who are with young. Deal tenderly with all the flock; may
every child of yours gain refreshment. May there not be one this day
without a smile from the Father’s face, a kind word dropped into their
spirit by the Holy Spirit which shall sink all fears.^302
