124 The Psalms

Psalm 8

LORD, our Lord, your name is so wonderful,
known in the whole world.
You have set your renown above the heavens.
You have planned praise from the mouths of children and infants,
because of your enemies, to silence any foe or opponent.
When I see your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and stars you placed there;
what is a person like me that you should keep me in mind,
or any human being that you should care for them?

But you have made us only a little less than God;
you have crowned us with glory and honour.
You put us in charge of the work of your hands.
You placed everything under our feet:
all the sheep and cattle, as well as wild animals,
the birds of the air, the fish in the sea,
everything swimming along the paths of the ocean.

LORD, our Lord, your name is so wonderful,
known in the whole world.

Psalm 13

How long, LORD? Will you forget me all the time?
How long will you hide yourself from me?
How long must I make my private plans
only to have heartache every day?
How long must my enemy get the better of me?

Look down, answer me, LORD my God;
open my eyes, or I will go to sleep and die,
or my enemy will say ‘I have beaten him’;
those who oppress me will be glad when I fall.

As for me, I will trust in your covenant love,
my heart will be glad in your salvation;
