126 The Psalms

Psalm 30

I exalt you, LORD, because you have rescued me
and you have not given my opponents reason to rejoice about me.
LORD my God, I cried out to you for help and you healed me.
LORD, you brought me up from the place of the dead;
you preserved me from joining those going down into the grave.

Sing praise to the LORD, faithful people;
give thanks as you recall his holiness.
Because his anger is for a moment – his favour is for life.
Weeping may last all evening,
but in the morning – a shout of joy.

When I thought things were easy I said, ‘I will never fall’.
When you showed favour, LORD,
you made my mountain refuge stand strong;
you hid your face – I was terrified.

I cry out to you, LORD, and I call for mercy to my Lord.
What is gained by my death, when I go down into the grave?
Does dust praise you? Does it speak of your faithfulness?
LORD, hear and have mercy on me.
LORD, be the one who helps me.

You have changed my mourning into a dance;
you have removed my mourning clothes for me
and dressed me in clothes of celebration,
so that from deep inside I will praise you and not be quiet.
LORD my God, I will give thanks to you for ever.
