Particular questions relating to the love of our neighbour
1 Have I considered anything, except my conscience, too dear
to part with in order to please or serve another?
2 Have I rejoiced, or grieved, with them?
3 Have I observed others’ weaknesses with pity, not with anger?
4 Have I contradicted anyone, either where I had no reason to,
or where there was no likelihood of convincing them?
5 Have I let anyone I thought in the wrong (in a trifle), have the
last word?^277
God the Father, who cannot be thought to have made me only to
destroy me, have mercy on me.
God the Son, who, knowing your Father’s will, came into the world to
save me; have mercy on me.
God the Holy Spirit, who has so often breathed holy thoughts into
me, have mercy on me. Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity, who in
three persons I adore as one God, have mercy on me.^278
The Psalm, or...
Who is like the LORD our God,
the one who lives high above?^279
