COWL
Using 3.25mm circular needles, 60cm
long, and yarn A, cast on 200 sts.
K n it 2 row s t h e n pm a n d j oi n to work i n t h e
round, taking care not to twist sts.

Begin working lower corrugated rib from
Chart A and work rounds 1-14, changing
colours as indicated by chart.
Change to 3.5mm circular needles.
Begin working Fair Isle from Chart B
rounds 15–50, reading pattern from right
to left on each round and repeating the
4-st repeat 50 times across the round.

Change to 3.25mm circular needles
Begin working upper corrugated rib from
Chart C rounds 51-55.

When Chart C is complete, cast off with
3.5mm needles and the i-cord cast-off
method as follows: using the knitted
cast-on, cast on 1 st, *K1, K2tog tbl, slip
these 2 sts back on to the left-hand needle;
rep from * to last 2 sts. K2, cast off in the
usual way.
Cut yarn leaving a 5cm tail, and pull this
t a i l t h rou g h lo op a n d fa s te n of f. Ne ate n
end through the beginning of the cast-off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends and gently block to
measurements, following any yarn care
instructions on the ball band.

HAT
Using 3.25mm circular needles, 40cm
long, and yarn A, cast on 120 sts.
K n it 2 row s t h e n pm a n d j oi n to work i n t h e
round, taking care not to twist sts.

Begin working corrugated rib from Chart D
and work rounds 1-9.

Change to 3.5mm circular needles.
Begin Chart E and AT THE SAME TIME
on Round 1 of Chart E increase: *K2, M1*
across round. 180 sts.

Continue working Chart E from rounds

Circumference after blocking: 48cm (19in)
Note: If a smaller hat circumference is
preferred, use 3mm needles for the
corrugated rib.

YARN
Cambrian Wool Cambrian Mountains 4ply
(4ply weight; 100% wool 150m/164yds per
50g ball)
A Slate; 2 x 50g balls
Plus 1 x 50g ball of each: B Hafan; C Mineral;
D Perl; E Rhosyn
These yarn quantities are sufficient to make
both the cowl and the hat. For just the hat or
the cowl, only 1 ball of yarn A is required.

3.25mm (UK 10/US 3) circular needles,
40cm and 60cm long
3.5mm (UK 10-9/US 4) circular needles,
40cm and 60cm long
Set of 3.5mm (UK 10-9/US 4) double-pointed
needles (DPNs) for hat
Stitch markers

TENSION
26 sts and 28 rnds to 10cm over corrugated
rib on 3.25mm needles.
25 sts and 28 rnds to 10cm over Fair Isle
pattern on 3.5mm needles.
