say to myself: I have been inattentive. And as inattention has left a mark on the
brain, I am concerned with the misery inattention has brought about. Then, in
investigating that misery, attention comes again, leaving no mark. So what is
taking place? Each time there is inattention, there is the quick and instant
perception of it. Perception has an immediacy; it has no duration. It is not of
time. Perception and attention leave no mark: The immediacy of perception is
always taking place.
