This pose provides a great stretch for the shoulders.
Risks and Contraindications
Modify or avoid this pose if you have a shoulder injury.
Alignment Points
- Begin in shoelace pose (page 124) or easy seated pose (page 118).
- Reach your left hand around your back with the palm facing outward.
- Slide your left hand as high up your back as possible. Imagine you
are trying to scratch an itch between your shoulder blades. - Reach your right arm up toward the sky.
- Bending your right elbow, place your right hand behind your neck,
with the palm facing inward. - Bring both hands toward each other until the ngers clasp.
- Repeat on the other side.
Modi cations and Other Options - If your shoulders are tight,
use a strap or even a shirt
to grab onto. As you hold
the stretch, you can work
at climbing the hands
closer toward each other. - For a deeper stretch,
lean forward.
