When I am meditating or
giving a retreat or teaching I
love silk batik sarongs, silk
blouses, and anything colorful
or white that is soft. My props
are crystal healing bowls, a
Radiance Tree of Life crystal
set, flowers tuning forks, a
piece of sacred wood, candles,
and a crystal bowl with salt
water. When it comes to
essential oils, frankincense,
rose, jasmine, and myrrh are
some of my favorites.

My yoga journey began 18
years ago but my practice
changed dramatically after a
ski racing accident limited my
asana practice. In this journey
photography became my
yoga and my camera my most
important prop in my practice.
I now bring the eight limbs of
yoga into all my photography
from Burning Man to India
and with all the people I am
privileged to capture in my
images.

We asked a selection of our contributors the following question this issue:

What are your favorite performance-based clothing items and/or props to

support your practice?

I am forever indebted to
Manduka's roomy yoga-mat
bags. While hustling from
home to work, to yoga and
back home on the NYC
subway system, and now
riding my bike from home
to yoga to work on Venice
mornings, their spaciousness
makes it all possible. Plus, the
compartments allow you to
cram in your computer, water
bottle, and even wet-sweaty
clothes without risk of ruining
all of it.

This summer I was all about
my Onzie & Beyond Yoga
rompers. They are comfy, and
easy to throw on and wear to
work, to class, or to perform.
Plus they're easy to pack and
layer as my company Tiny Box
Theater went on tour beyond
NYC to Boston, Edinburgh,
and Toronto. Returning home,
I love using props at night for
some restorative and yin yoga:
blocks, bolsters, and blankets.
