The so-called “warrior” poses, commonly practiced in adult yoga,
provide another opportunity for children to engage in a sequence
of poses, honing the organization of their play. For these standing
poses, the children begin in warrior I, move into warrior II, and if
able to balance on one foot, practice warrior III. In some classes,
children produce affirmations such as “I am strong! I am bold!
My own balance I can hold!” to accompany this warrior sequence.
Another sequence that improves organization is the sun salutation,
a series of poses that is common in adult yoga practice, but can
be adapted for children. Michael Chissick’s Seahorse’s Magical Sun
Sequences is a delightful children’s book about adapting this series
of poses for children of varied abilities. Hardy (2015) presents
