Hockey pucks are frozen

before they’re used in play so

players can control them on

the ice better.

Originally, pucks may have
been frozen discs of cow
poop. Later, they were carved
out of wood or cork, and
finally were made of rubber.

There are 31 teams in the

National Hockey League,

seven from Canada and 24

from the United States.

The origins of hockey

probably come from a

mixture of stick-and-ball

games played by Mi’kmaq (an

indigenous Canadian people)

and European settlers. Cool sport.
