The Germ GameCut out the 18 cards and the game board. Put the yellow-backed cards facedown in one loose pile and the orange-backed cards facedown in another loose pile. Each player needs a marker for the game board. Buttons or dried beans or tiny toys work well. Each player chooses one column (the soap bubbles, the Band-Aids, the lunchbox foods, or the tissues) on which to move his or her marker. Players start at the bottom and move up to the top of the column. Two to four players can play the game. The first player picks up one orange card and one yellow card, then turns them over and decides whether doing the action on the orange card could lead to the result on the yellow card. For example, could “Washing your hands” match with “might spread germs”? If it could, the player moves his or her marker forward one step. If it could not, the player does not move forward. The first player puts the cards back into the piles and shuffles them. Then it’s the next player’s turn. Keep taking turns until one player crosses the finish line; that player wins the game!
