as index off of some flat portions and recesses
present in the bottom of the block. After drawing

At long l ast it was time to eradicate the
last bits of the Scout’s drivetrain. We had
purposely left the chassis on the stock axles
so it would remain mobile, and indeed it trav-
eled back and forth between the author’s shop
as well as Simons’ a couple of times up to this
point. W ith a track ing number in hand for the
a x les, we could finally unbolt the puny stock
stuff in preparation for some major beef. Lots
of cutting and frame cleanup ensued as we
removed the stock spring and shackle mounts.

well as our goals in terms of overall ride
height w ith 38 - inch Falken tires. The pl an is low,
wide, simple, and stable. Will we pull it off? Find
