SPRING ROD RUN 2019

I

n 1974, the Daytona Beach Street Rod Association created
two shows in Daytona Beach, Florida. These shows were
originally created by the club’s president, Stu Sarjeant, when
he attempted to enter his full custom Ford truck into a local
car and truck show and was denied entry at that time because
modified vehicles weren’t allowed. The following year, Turkey Rod
Run was created in the fall followed by Spring Rod Run. Currently,
the Turkey Rod Run hosts nearly 7,000 vintage, classic muscle and
race cars and trucks with the Spring Rod Run more than 2,000.
In addition to the diverse custom and restored cars and trucks,
guests at the show are treated to a massive swap meet in which
vendors sell and trade hard-to-find auto parts and accessories.
There are arts and crafts on Artisan Alley and a full midway of
delicious food and beverages for all ages available at all times.
Kids and adults alike had a blast at the World’s Premiere Aquatic
Canine Competition. Setup inside the infield of the Daytona
Speedway, dogs of all sizes jumped from a 40-foot dock into a 40-
foot pool and competed in Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed
Retrieve competitions. The annual classic car parade lap around
the track was held to recap the packed full show.
Originally held at a hotel parking lot, both events are now
held in the largest location in Daytona Beach, the Daytona
International Speedway. The Spring Rod Run is presented by
White Diamond and sponsored in part by Spectrum. In its history,
more than $12 million in proceeds from both shows have been
granted to capital projects in the community that improve the
resident’s quality of life. Show promoter Jennifer Labonte wishes
to thank everyone that came to enjoy the thousands of beautiful
vehicles and events held at the speedway. Visit http://www.turkeyrun.
