When brainstorming the current issue with the
team, I couldn’t contain my laughter when one of the
ladies suggested we do a feature on marriage weight.
Basically, marriage weight is when the comfort of
blissful matrimony leads to gaining weight. I had
never heard of such a concept, as I’m constantly
battling weight gain on any given day [Chuckles]!
Our feature on DNA Analysis (page 94) delves
deeper into how testing your DNA make-up could
give you the secret to longevity. Literally, what your
body thrives on, food to eat or stay away from, and
the perfect exercise regime best suited to you. A
few months ago, while travelling from an event in
Bloemfontein, I had the pleasure of meeting fitness
extraordinaire Takkies, of Dancing In Heels. She
praised how DNA analysis had completely changed
her life – and how her plant-based diet had left her
feeling more energised and lighter. For those battling
with their weight, perhaps it’s a worthy option to try.
Speaking of wellbeing and early detection of
chronic diseases, do turn to our True Story on page
96, where 22-year-old Velisa Sishuba, recounts
her battle with breast cancer from the young age of- She owes her survival to early detection, which
doesn’t take away from how her entire youth was
stripped away. Her life has been a heart-wrenching
battle that gives you an immediate wake-up call
to take better care of yourself and go for regular
check-ups.
On a lighter note, this issue is definitely a colour
explosion — from summer-ready bold manicures
to pretty-in-pink ensembles. Our fun cocktails and
quick canapé ideas are a must-try for entertainers!
