worktopsinthekitchenandmoorishfloor

tilesinthebathroomsandutility.‘I wanted

solid,ruggedkitchencounterswithout

groutingforpracticality,’saysKatja,who

collateda Pinterestmoodboardcomprising

inspiringschemesandmust-haveproducts.

‘Ourstyleis a mixtureofclassic,DIY

andbohemianvintage,’shereflects.‘I’ma

keenupholstererandI liketomakepieces

myself,whileVesais intoScandinavian

designerssuchasarneJacobsen.Our

previoushomewasmorecolourful,buthere

wewantedtocreatea calmerambience.We

broughttheredEggchairwithusand,at

first,wehadtroublefindingtherightspot

forit.Nowit is nestledinthebaywindow

bythediningtableandit seemstowork.’

Thecouple’sloveofcombiningdesign

statementswithsimplefinishesis evidentin

theirchoiceoflighting,whichKatjaadmits

isa passion.TheclassicIngomaurer

Zettel’zlightthathangsinthesittingroom

hasfollowedthemfromhometohome,and

whensomeofitspaperdetailsgotlost,Katja

simplyreplacedthemwithbutterfliesshe

fashionedfromorigamipaper.Themathieu

challièrespendantinthechildren’sroom

hasbeenonKatja’swishlistforyearsandis

Nowtherenovationis behindthem,

thisfamilycanenjoytheextraspacethatit

hasaffordedthem.‘We’restillmaking

tweaks,’saysKatja,‘butthat’sthebeautyof

this space – it seems to evolve as we do.’
