Q
Are there any Christmas-themed
needle minders? I use a different one
for each season but don’t have one just for
Christmas! I know lots of people probably
don’t stitch over Christmas but it would be
nice to find something to use.

themed minders: a Stitchmas Pear from the

Q
I wonder if you can help me – I’m in the process of
stitching some little cross stitch projects to make into
Christmas cards and I want to make one for a baby’s first
Christmas. Please could you advise me whether there have
been any patterns of this sort in The World of Cross Stitching
magazines in the last few years? Thank you in advance.
Charlotte Miles, via Facebook
A
Hannah: What a lovely idea, Charlotte! It’s great to
mark that first Christmas occasion for a little one. While
not specifically for this event, Lucie Heaton’s cute animals with
stockings card set in issue 248 would be a great choice. You
could even add your own backstitched text to them to send a
little personalised greeting. Most Design Library collections in
our magazine include a simple alphabet pattern, so hopefully
you can find a suitable set to use from those. If you’re missing
issue 248, you can still buy this copy as a digital edition via our
app on the Android and Apple stores.
Delicate question
Q
I’ve come across some embroideries on a see-through and
delicate tulle-like fabric which look amazing. Do you have
any suggestions of sheer fabrics out there suitable for doing this
with cross stitch instead?
Nisha Chauhan, via Facebook
A
Heather: I’ve seen these embroideries too, Nisha, and they
look great – the objects in the hoops look like they are
floating in space! Unfortunately, this is a challenge for cross
stitch, which requires uniform squares, so you need to find a
fabric with a clear, even grid of holes. Or, if you find a fabric you
simply must stitch on, use waste canvas on top to give yourself a
clear grid for your stitches. Do let us know how you get on!
Man. These handy little minders are
approx. 3.5cm high and made from
glossy, thick enamel. They have two
super-strong magnets to hold them
in place on your fabric while keeping
your needles safe and to hand. Each
costs £8.35 on its own or £10 with
a mini drawstring pouch, perfect for
storage and gifting.
Caterpillar Cross Stitch was
established in 2015, and since then
we’ve hosted many stitch-a-long
(SAL) projects as well as our inspiring
online collection of cross stitch patterns,

Q
I’m aware that Craft
Creations* has changed
hands but they don’t appear
to have the beautiful coloured
card blanks that they used to
do. Do you know of any other
companies that do these,
please? Thank you.

A
Katriel: Yes, you’re
right, Craft Creations
has changed hands recently
and is now in
the process of
setting up a
new HQ. We’ve
contacted them
directly and
they’ve let us
know that it’s still
early days and
they’re in the
process of getting
up and running, so will be
adding more supplies to their
website when they get the
stock in – so hopefully in the
future they may stock these
again. In the meantime,
however, you can find similar
card supplies from PDA Card
and Craft*, who also stock
a wide range of aperture and
single-fold cards in a variety of
colours with envelopes to fit.
