“NETFLIX VS. HULU”
One thing about Hulu that’s a deal-killer for me is that the app wants access to the
ORFDWLRQRIP\GHYLFHVZKLFK,¿QGWRWDOO\XQDFFHSWDEOH,XVHGWRXVH)URQWLHUDVP\
ISP, and most other apps that wanted my location pulled it from the one supplied by
Frontier (Fort Wayne, Indiana—about an hour’s drive from my house.)


To me, the attitude of Hulu and some other companies (Google, for example) is
much like the obsession expressed by the ex-lover in the song by The Police: “Every
Breath You Take.”


Gmail and I will be parting company at some point, but it is much easier to end
things with a streaming service than to choose a good, privacy-friendly email service
and notify everyone of my new address.


Until then, I’ll try to be as careful as I can to limit what Facebook [knows] (I have not
had a Facebook account in years, but Zuckerberg said in his testimony before
Congress that Facebook tracks people who do not have accounts for “security

Google beacons and scripts can run on my devices.
