Nikon Z 50

The Nikon Z 6 and Z 7 are maybe the best
mirror–less cameras on the planet, and now the
company is adding to the range with this smaller,
more affordable model. Instead of the giant full–
frame sensor on the other cameras, you’ve got a
20–megapixel APS–C sensor here, which is still a
generous size. It works with Nikon’s new Z mount
lenses, and includes a tilting screen, an electronic
viewfinder, eye–detecting autofocus for easy
portraits, 11fps continuous shooting, and 4K video. If
the quality and usability even come close to what its
bigger siblings offer, this will be a brilliant buy.

>>> The 8K rush continues, and now bang–for–your–
buck brand Hisense is getting in on the act, but with
a clever design we’ve never seen before. Below the
main 85–inch panel (you always get the best of 8K
at seriously big sizes) is a built–in soundbar with a
wild 4.2.2 speaker system, for immersive audio. But
even better is beneath that: a second screen. It’s
short and wide, and can be used for ambiance (a
roaring fire, anyone?) or to browse menus without
obscuring what you’re watching. We’re waiting on
confirmation of a US release date and price.

With the release of iPadOS, we’re truly close to
the iPad becoming a laptop replacement. Case in
point: this Bluetooth keyboard takes advantage of
the new limited mouse support to take things
further in that direction. It has a trackpad built in
(with gesture controls), a keyboard with backlit keys,
shortcut keys, a hinge to adjust the iPad’s angle to
anything you like, and it has lovely scissor switch
keys, like Apple’s older–style keyboards. It smashed
its Kickstarter, and will arrive in January 2020.
