Capto is designed to capture your screen. It can do that as a
still image or it can record video of all or some of the screen,
capturing either the app’s audio or your own narration. That
means it’s useful for creating training videos, presentations,
and content for platforms such as YouTube.
You can cut, crop, join and trim video clips, add
annotations and highlights, and adjust the audio levels.

you can export in .mp4 or .mov format with presets for
iPods, iPhones, iPads and Apple TV, as well as Mac and PC.
The key rival here is ScreenFlow, which is more expensive

and in our experience more stable, too. If we needed to do a
lot of screen recording for work or YouTube, time is money,
so that’s the app we’d want to use. However, for simple
projects without too much need for editing, Capto is quite

Sidenotes sits at the side of your screen, out of
the way but always accessible while you work, and
it sits on top of every other window. Notes can be
color–coded and grouped into folders, created
directly from the contents of the clipboard, and
formatted as plain text, Markdown, or code. And
you can drag and drop images, links and code
snippets onto them.
It’s a great way to keep snippets of text or
images in front of you while you work. You can
also use it for to–do lists, and the support for
different folders means you can keep only the
notes you need visible. Sidenotes also supports
share extensions to share notes with other apps.
There are limitations, though. Even on a large
screen, it doesn’t take long before notes push past
the bottom of the screen and you have to scroll
down to see them (you can make them wider, but
that defeats the point). And there’s no way to
allocate deadlines or create reminders.
THE BOTTOM LINE. Useful for keeping your
notes close to hand, but relatively expensive.
