A more secure alternative to cloud services is to store and
transport data on a physical hardware key, and that’s what
the Datashur Pro 2 does. A robust USB 3.2 Gen 1 data drive,
it contains an internal battery and a chip that provides AES–
XTS 256–bit full disk hardware encryption. In capacities
from 4GB all the way to 512GB, prices vary accordingly with
size. In basic use you connect the drive, press the Key
button, enter your PIN, press Key again and the drive
mounts with full access. Unmounted, the drive locks itself.
Extensive PIN services are available via the physical keys.
You are required to set an admin PIN but can also set a user
PIN, recovery codes, single–use codes, and more. There are
options like auto time out, brute force protection, and
auto–wipe of all data; as well as the ability to set a restricted
read–only mode and make the drive bootable. All of this is
set up and managed using the three lights, modes, and the
number keys. With read/write speeds of 120 and 130MB/sec
respectively — just above its times quoted by iStorage —
the performance is decent, particularly in writing data.
THE BOTTOM LINE. Total hardware protection for your
data — if you need it. HOLLIN JONES
Klipsch’s first set of true wireless buds come with
a heavyweight fast–charging case in a brushed
metal finish. Three small lights indicate the
amount of juice left in increments.
The buds themselves are black, with rose–gold
branding across the top of their elliptical housing.
The neck of the unit is quite long, and while some
users will prefer the deeper fit of the buds, others
may find it uncomfortable. The central buttons
on each unit perform functions such as pausing
a track — once you get the hang of short or
long–pressing the bud to facilitate your request.
There is no noise–cancelling tech here, but
there are four mics — and in our tests, voice calls
were nice and clear. Once you get a good seal, the
T5s offer a tight, heavyweight bass performance.
They also offer great detail and separation, as well
as emotive vocals — ideal for rock ‘n’ roll.
THE BOTTOM LINE. They look the part and
sound great in rock tracks. ALICIA RYAN
