AWESOMEVersion 5 of Creaceed’s
document scanner and
text recognition tool saw
it get a major overhaul
that included a new interface, new

recognition engines, and several new
editing tools.
Version 5.1 adds support for iOS
13’s built–in text recognition — the
feature that allows you to search for
text in docs scanned in the Notes app
— which Creaceed says “brings
improved OCR in most situations”.
There are three options for using
Prizmo, according to the features you
need and how much you’re willing to
pay. The basic version, that allows
you to scan and edit documents, use
on–device OCR, and export PDFs, is
free — but watermarks your
documents. To remove the
watermarks and access whatCreaceed calls “unlimited
on–device OCR”, as well as
access to all text and text–
to–speech features and
smart actions, you’ll need

The starting point for a

a document. But, thanks to a

you can scan, clean up, crop,
OCR, and export to PDF in
three taps. You can, of
course, edit manually and

edge repair, and page detection
features. When you do that, the scan
reverts back to an image, but with
one tap you can re–process it to
recognize the text again.

format. There are a ton of other
features, including Siri shortcuts to
allow you to scan a business card or
document, and extensions to edit
scans in Photos or scan directly to
the Messages app. There’s also a tool
to allow you to have text read aloud
to you once it’s been recognized
from a scanned document.
Prizmo is easy to use — we were
scanning multi–page documents,converting and then exporting them
within a minute of launching the
app. And OCR, whether you use on–
device, cloud, or iOS 13’s built–in
engine, is speedy. Tools are logically
laid out and simple to operate.
THE BOTTOM LINE. There are other
options for scanning documents, but
