iPHONE 6S
SERVICE PROGRAM
Apple is offering free
repairs for iPhone 6s
and iPhone 6s Plus
phones with a faulty
component that may
fail and prevent the
device from powering
on. The issue affects a
limited number of units
made between October 2018 and August
2019, and Apple’s service program
covers them up to two years after initial
purchase. You can check your serial
number on Apple’s dedicated support
page at bit.ly/MAL161-6s-service.

SLEEP APP COMING TO WATCH?
Apple’s own App Store listing for the
Alarms app on Apple Watch has,
apparently mistakenly, included a
screenshot referring to a Sleep app in
which you can set your bedtime and
wake–up time. Such an app does not
exist yet on Apple Watch. The Clock app
on iPhone has a feature called Bedtime,
which works like this: you set your wake–

up time and how long you want to sleep;
from this, the app calculates when you
should go to bed, and sets a reminder. It
also has some sleep tracking functions.
None of this can be controlled from your
Watch, though; you can only dismiss the
reminder. So, is a comprehensive Sleep
app for Apple Watch in the works, maybe
even one with sleep tracking? It’s been
anticipated since Apple acquired sleep
tracking company Beddit back in 2017...

> APPLE TO ADOPT MINI–LED TECH
FOR PRO DISPLAYS?
Highly–regarded industry analyst Ming–
Chi Kuo says Apple is planning to use
mini–LED technology for high–end iPad
and MacBook displays sometime
between late 2020 and mid 2021.
OLED is thinner, with better contrast
and black level, but mini–LED promises
better brightness and color accuracy,
has fewer production issues, and
crucially does not suffer from burn–in.
The tech is currently more costly than
OLED, but the move will also help Apple
reduce its reliance on Samsung, its
supplier of OLED screens.

The analyst adds that the new pro
iPad and MacBook screens will each
have an astonishing 10,000 LEDs, each
measuring 200 microns across, as
compared to the 576 LEDs, all
significantly larger, in Apple’s upcoming
Pro Display XDR.

> TRACK YOUR STUFF WITH
APPLE TAGS?
An upcoming version of Apple’s
revamped Find My app will
include a way to “keep track
of your everyday items”
such as keys, wallets, and
backpacks, according to
MacRumors, which viewed an
internal build of iOS 13. You
attach a small tracker tag to
your belongings, the location of
which then shows up in a new Items
tab in the Find My app. Like AirPods,
the tags will be able to emit a sound to
help you find them, and the app will
also get an Augmented Reality view
in which tagged items will be flagged,
apparently with a red 3D or orange
2D balloon.
