MORE STITCHES

After each row of double treble, you need to

turn your fabric and work the turning chain

(4 chains for dtr). The picture (right) shows

this done and ready to continue.

In crochet, you need to make a t-ch at the

start of each row to bring the hook up to the

working height for the next row. You usually

make the t-ch at the start of the new row,

but it was traditionally worked at the end of

the row. Different stitches need a different

length of t-ch (see page 46 for more detail

on turning chains).

In double treble fabric, you usually count

the t-ch as the first stitch of the new row

(unless the pattern states otherwise). The

numbers on the image (right) show where

to work your first double treble stitch after

the t-ch – into the top of the second stitch

on the row below, skipping the stitch at the

base of the t-ch.

Use these to bring the hook up to the

height of the next row

TURNING CHAINS

Work four chains for the t-ch (see below

right), which counts as the first stitch of the

new row. Work yrh twice and insert hook under

the v-shaped top of the second stitch from the

previous row.

To finish the row of double treble stitches,

work the final dtr stitch into the top chain of

the turning chain on the previous row.

Finish the double treble stitch as before: yrh,

pull yarn through, (yrh, pull yarn through 2

loops) 3 times. Work a dtr into the top of each

stitch of the previous row.

Your second row of double trebles will be

finished. Repeat Steps 1-3 until you have the

number of rows you need.
