CROCHET IN THE ROUND

nce you’ve mastered double

crochet in the round, try treble

crochet in the round. Make a basic

ring and then follow our guide below to work

the first round of trebles.

With treble crochet, you’ll need to make a

3-ch turning chain at the start of every

round (see page 46 for more details about

turning chains). Then you can work the

stitches of that round. At the end of every

round, join the last stitch to the first stitch

using a slip stitch (we’ll show you how in the

photos below).

On the first round of a long foundation

ring, work a stitch into each chain as usual.

On the first round of a small ring, it’s better

to work the stitches into the gap at the

centre of the ring, so insert the hook here

and not into each chain.

Here we’re giving you some general rules

for working in the round but some patterns

may differ slightly. Take care to always

follow the instructions in the pattern you’re

using to get the best results.

How to work the first round in treble crochet

Work more treble crochet stitches in the

same way (inserting hook into the centre of

the ring), as instructed in your pattern, pushing

the stitches closer if you need to.

After the last stitch, insert hook into the top

chain of the turning chain at the start of the

round. Work a slip stitch (yrh, pull through both

loops).

Make a basic foundation ring and don’t turn

the work. Make three turning chains for

treble crochet (this counts as a stitch). To start

your first treble crochet stitch, work yrh and

insert hook into the centre of the ring.

Work yarn round hook and pull yarn through

the centre of the foundation ring (three

loops on hook). Finish the stitch as usual (yrh,

pull through first two loops, yrh, pull through

remaining two loops).
