CROCHET IN THE ROUND

M

ost patterns worked in the round
use the basic foundation ring
method. But the chain loop
method is a good alternative that you might
prefer – we’ll show you how to do it below.
You might find it a little fiddly to start with,
but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find

that it can be a quicker method to use than
the basic ring.
The chain loop ring involves making just
two chains and then working the first round
of stitches into the first chain. Remember
not to count the loop on the hook and don’t
mistake the slipknot for the first chain.

When you work the first stitch into the chain
loop, be careful not to twist the chain.
The finished chain loop ring has a much
smaller hole at the centre than the basic
ring, but the chain loop method is best used
when you’re only working a small number of
stitches into the ring on the first round.

...finish your first double crochet stitch by
working yarn round hook, then pull a loop
through. Yrh and pull the yarn loop through
both loops on the hook.

Work more stitches into the chain loop,
although only 4-6 stitches will fit. Work a slip
stitch to join the first and last double crochet
stitches and finish the first round.

1

Make a slipknot and place it on your hook.
Make one chain and tighten the slipknot. This
first chain will be your foundation ring.

Make the turning chain for the stitches
you want to work (above, we worked 1ch
for double crochet). Now you can work your
stitches into the first chain you made. For
double crochet, insert hook, then...
