CROCHET WITH COLOUR

W

hen working in the round, you
can create amazing colour
effects by working different
rounds in different shades – traditional
granny squares are a great example of how
this can work to eye-popping effect.
When you’re working with rounds, it’s
often better to fasten off each round and

then join the new yarn colour by using the
slipknot technique (shown below). This
method is also handy when you’re working
lacy motifs.
There are some other ways to change
yarn colour when you’re working in the
round. You can also use the slip stitch
technique (shown opposite at the bottom of

the page). Each method creates a different
look, so try them out and choose the one
you think works best for each project you
work on.
In both methods, we’ve stated where to
cut the old yarn, but if you’re not sure, wait
until you’re sure you’ve done the technique
correctly before cutting.

the new round and work the stitches in the new
colour for the new round.

Fasten off the previous round in the old yarn
colour and cut the old yarn, leaving a 10cm-
long tail. Make a slipknot in the new yarn colour
and place on your hook.

Insert the hook into the place where you
want to join the yarn. Hold the working yarn
and tail end at the back of the work (to help
keep the slipknot at the back).
