he following rows of half treble are

worked in the same way as the

foundation row, except you won’t

now be working each stitch into each chain

• instead, you’ll be working each stitch into
  the top of the stitch on the previous row
  (see below).

This is just as easy as working stitches

into chains – the only extra technique you’ll

need to know is turning chains (see below

right for more). In half treble rows, you need

to count the turning chain (t-ch) as a stitch

at the start of the row, then at the end of the

row work a half treble stitch into the top of

the turning chain of the previous row. Have a

practice and you’ll soon get the hang of it.

The more rows you work, the larger your

piece of half treble fabric. At the end of each

row, count your stitches (this is the stitch

count) to check you haven’t made too many

or missed any.

To finish the row of half treble stitches, work

the final half treble stitch into the top chain

of the two turning chains on the previous row.

Your second row of half treble crochet will

be finished. Repeat Steps 1-3 until

you have the number of rows you need.

Work two chains for the t-ch (see below

right), which counts as the first stitch of the

new row. Work yrh and insert hook under the

v-shaped top of the second stitch from the

previous row.

Work a half treble stitch as before: yrh,

pull yarn through, yrh, pull through all

three loops. Work a half treble into the

top of each stitch of the previous row.
