Assembling the Quilt
Center
Refer to the Assembly Diagram. Sew
5 blocks and 4 section 1’s together
as shown to make row 1. Repeat
to make 5 row 1’s total. Join 5 sec-
tion 1’s and 4 sections 2’s to make
row 2. Make 4 row 2’s total. Sew
rows together, alternating as shown.4
Adding the Borders
Sew 1 unit 1, 1 unit 2, and
4 unit 3’s together to make pieced
border 1. Make 4 total. Join 2 to
sides of quilt. Sew 2 navy B’s to
remaining 2 border 1’s; add to top
and bottom of quilt.Refer to “Borders” in Basic Lessons.
Join border 2 strips and cut to
sizes shown in Assembly Diagram.
Matching centers and ends, sew bor-
der 2 side strips to quilt; repeat to
add top and bottom strips.5
Quilting and Finishing
Layer and baste together the
backing, batting, and quilt top.Refer to the quilting placement
diagram. Quilt a fl ower, a circular
serpentine, and boomerangs in
the block. Quilt crosshatching in
section 2. Quilt swirls in the back-
ground as shown.Bind the quilt.
