Faces and figures
The Royal School of Needlework, based in
Hampton Court Palace, Greater London, has
opened a new exhibition. Entitled Faces &
Figures in Stitch, it showcases how people
have been depicted in embroidery, from
stylised stick people on early samplers to
detailed pieces of tapestry shading.
There will be more than 100 pieces from
the 18th to the 21st centuries on display, from
Greek goddesses and figures in history to
friends and familiar faces of today, stitched in
a range of hand embroidery techniques. The
work on display will be by RSN students and
from the RSN’s textile collection. The exhibition
runs until March 2020.
