A tripod is one of the most important

purchases photographers make, after

their camera. Landscape photography,

in particular, demands the use of our

three-legged friend, as shooting handheld

at small apertures and the resulting slow

shutter speeds is impossible. But as we’ve

already noted, a tripod can limit your

creativity if it can’t accommodate all the

potential shooting angles. To avoid this,

ensure that any tripod you think about

buying can fully splay its legs for low down

shooting, and ideally has a reversible centre

column for shots at, or near to, ground level.
