Borislav Mihaylov sent letters to the FA
and UEFA, declaring it “offensive” that
Bulgarian fans had been branded as
racists ahead of the game.
When the match in the Vasil Levski
Stadium was twice stopped before
half-time by the Croatian referee Ivan
Bebek, almost nobody in the press area
understood what was going on. According
to Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List, Bebek
told England boss Gareth Southgate there
was no reason to abandon the match.

Nazi salutes...
