I

T WASN’T the exposed ductwork or the expansive

wall of windows that drew designer Erika Floysvik

and her partner Chris to this third-f loor loft in

Toronto’s East End. “We were most excited when

we realized we’d have enough room for our art

collection” says Erika of the 14-foot-high ceilings. “Art is

life-enriching and tells the story of the people who live

in a space.”

Erika tweaked the 1140-square-foot space opening up

the kitchen to the living area and replacing the concrete

f loors with oiled white oak for visual warmth. A new

9-foot-high bank of closets runs along the wall between

the front door and dining banquette holding everything

from clothing to cleaning supplies leaving no wasted

space in the hallway. Erika and Chris then opted for

custom-built furniture to suit the scale of the rooms and

open-concept living. “When you need fewer pieces you

can surround yourself with all your favourite things

and create a home that’s sophisticated and artful”
