H&H: WHERE DO YOU STASH YOUR STUFF?

EF: We have 205 square feet of space under the

raised bedroom. I call it the “deep sea” storage.

We use it for things like a ladder shop vac and

our Christmas ornaments.

H&H: WHAT’S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO

WANT TO DOWNSIZE?

EF: Pay attention to storage within cupboards

and cabinets. I made an inventory

of everything we’d need to tuck inside cabinets

and measured it all. That way there were no

surprises and we could accommodate

everything right down to a bin for dog food.

H&H: WHAT’S THE MOST SURPRISING BENEFIT OF

SMALL-SPACE LIVING?

EF: There’s a real sense of community in our

building so we have a neighbourhood without

the maintenance of a house or property.

ABOVE: The bedroom’s feature wall which extends up from

the entryway is covered in a graffitiesque mural that Erika

sought out after seeing it in a magazine. The upholstered

headboard lines up perfectly with the half wall so the

expanse of wallpaper remains uncluttered when viewed from

the lower level. White linens feel serene and hotel-like

bathroom. Erika changed the initial layout closing off the

original entrance and building a new one to allow for a second

vanity on the opposite wall (not shown). “The mirrored layout

creates plenty of clearance space for two people” she says.
