It’s What’s Inside that
Counts
I have here in my hot little
hands the August 2008 issue
and was reading through the
PC notebooks vs. MacBooks
article when I spotted what
could be an error. In the
MacBook Pro review, you say
there’s no way to add a cellu-
lar modem to the notebook,
and no factory option for it.
I don’t know about the fac-
tory option, but it’s entirely
possible to add a cell modem
to the notebook (if you mean
what I think you mean).
There are several USB cell
modems on the market that
work with both Windows
and Mac, and I know of at
least one Express/34 modem
from Sierra Wireless that is
compatible.

Ung Responds: The context
of the statement was that
you cannot add an internal
broadband modem. I think it’s
pretty clear that you can add
a USB modem or ExpressCard
modem, but, for many people,
that’s just funky, especially
when you’re talking about
those dorky-looking USB-
modem appendages.
So Say Most of Us
I realize that printing costs
are going up and reader-
ship of printed periodicals
is on the decline. That is no
excuse, however, for making
statements like the one in
“The List: 10 Things That Are
Wildly Overhyped!” (July
2008). How can you say,
“Battlestar Galactica: Once-
awesome sci-fi is now
Melrose Place in space,”
without any supporting
evidence? Was this an inten-
tional “grenade toss” to see
how many emails you’d get
about it?
I noticed that there is no
author listed for The List. Is
this because everybody con-
tributed or because whoever
wrote it is a troll who knew
he would be flamed for
such ridiculous comments?
At any rate, I’m curious to
know the thought process
that defends such a wild-ass
statement.
Until the former Mrs.
Richie Sambora makes an
appearance on the show, I
refuse to believe there is any
merit to the metaphor, other
than that they are both TV
shows with a loyal fan base.
Convince me otherwise.

although the facts pain me,
you have to admit I’m right.
