Cl if f ’s your typical returning
rider who’s excited to be back
on the bike after about five years
and since having kids. He’s
graduated from 125s, 250s and
Street Triple 675s to Thruxtons
over the years, and now he’s the
proud owner of a mint Honda
VFR750, which he intends on
riding more frequently. But his
time off the bike hasn’t helped his
skills or confidence, and he knows
he needs to brush up his bikecraft
any way he can ASAP.
“I’ve had a big issue with
cornering. Too often I go in too hot,
I’m jerky on the throttle, and I’ma
bit scared overall,” Cliff, 40, says.
“I also know I’m too tense when
I’m on the bike because, at the end
of a longer ride, my shoulders are
sore and, mentally, I’m absolutely
knackered.”

Cliff recently treated the VFR to a fresh set of Pirelli
Diablo Rosso IIIs, which have a softer rubber compound on the
sidewalls and a high silica content for extra grip in the wet.
