looking for them to toss her treats.
“At least she’s much more playful now,” Mia
laughed as she threw a biscuit to Bella, who was
trailing along behind her.
“I can’t believe we were here for over an hour before
we found these magic treats,” Drew shook her head.
Mia agreed. “We really should have asked Ms.
Morse more about Bella before taking the job.”
“We figured it out,” Drew smiled as her sister
handed over the treat box and she took her turn
running around the yard to entertain Bella.
“Do you think we’ve given her too many treats?”
Mia wondered out loud. “Maybe we should stop.”
“This is the only thing that’s made her stop barking
the whole time we’ve been here. I think Ms. Morse will
understand,” Drew reasoned.
“I definitely do!” the girls jumped when they heard
Ms. Morse chime in. “Sorry, I thought you heard me
pull up. But wow, look at Bella. She’s being so good.”
“Yeah, today was ...” Mia trailed off because she
couldn’t decide whether to tell the truth or not.
Drew knew they couldn’t lie. “Difficult. Bella went to
the bathroom, but she didn’t eat the afternoon meal
you wanted her to have and we did give her a lot of
treats. We’re sorry. It was the only way we could get
her outside, and we were so scared she might go to
the bathroom in the house.”
“Girls, girls,” Ms. Morse cut off Drew’s ramble. “It’s
fine. Bella looks happy, and I know you tried your best.
I wouldn’t have told you that those treats get her to
behave if I didn’t want you to use them.”
Mia and Drew breathed sighs of relief.
“That’s good because .. well ... we were hoping
we could watch Bella again some time. We’ll come
prepared with more activities in mind since we know
how much she likes to play now.”
“That works for me,” Ms. Morse smiled before
turning to her dog. “What do you think, Bella? Do you
want the twins to watch you during my meeting next
week? Will you be a good girl for them this time?”
The twins chuckled as the Yorkie let out an excited
bark. They all took that as a “yes!”
