passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019.

RUTH KUPPERSCHLAG
Ruth Kupperschlag born in Solingen, Germany
on March 3, 1925, was predeceased by her
parents, Joseph Kupperschlag, and Anna Isaac
Kupperschlag, and her sister, Marion.
Ruth worked for Intelsat in Washington DC for
20 years before she retired and then was an
associate at Rizik’s.
As a lover of classical music, Ruth was a
loyal supporter of the Alexandria Symphony
Orchestra for several decades and was a Board
member of the Symphony Orchestra League
of Alexandria. Ruth was recognized as the
SOLA Volunteer of the Year in 2009, and over
the years provided her many talents to SOLA’s
formal balls, directory and monthly newsletter.
Ruth died on August 22, 2019, and is survived
by her cousins, Michael and Ronny Wisbrun of
Holland.
A tribute to Ruth will be held in Chadwicks, 203
The Strand,Alexandria,VA 22314 today.

LUCY M. SYLVESTER (Age 94)
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Octo-
ber 23, 2019 at Sunrise on Connecticut Ave. in
Washington, DC. Born in Baltimore, Maryland,
she was raised and lived in Detroit until 1961
when she moved to Southwest Washington,
DC with her husband and young children.
She retired from John Burroughs Elementary
School. She was predeceased by her husband,
Edward C. Sylvester, Jr. She is survived by
her three children, Lynn Sylvester, Edward C.
Sylvester III and Carol S. Bradwell; grandson,
Willis R. Bradwell III; son-in-law, Willis R. Brad-
well, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews and
friends. The family will receive friends on
Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 11 a.m. until
time of service, 12 noon, at Saint Augustine
Episcopal Church, 555 Water St. SW, Washing-

SYLVESTER


GEORGE WEBB FELLOWS SR. (Age 88)
Of Naples Florida, passed away peacefully at
home on the evening of Wednesday, October
30, 2019, while watching the World Series; his
wife Linda was by his side.
George was born on May 12, 1931 in Baltimore
Maryland. He grew up in Frederick Maryland
with his parents Ralph and Estelle Fellows and
his brother Ralph. George went to Mercersburg
Academy and Washington & Lee University
where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science
in Commerce in 1954. While in college he
was a noted member of the Phi Kappa Sigma
fraternity and captain of the lacrosse team.
In 1951 he enlisted in the Naval Air Reserves
and in 1955 he switched from blue to green
and joined the Army, serving active duty as a
Military Intelligence Specialist. Once honorably
discharged George made his most successful
career move and joined the firm of Francis I
Dupont, thus beginning his illustrious carrier
as a financial advisor and ultimately a Branch
Manager. Moving quickly up the ranks, George
worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert, Smith
Barney, and Morgan Stanley. Still managing an
active book until his final day, George earned a
reputation and following in the Washington, DC
financial world that is remembered by many.
He was a devoted husband and father who
worked hard to provide for his family and lived
by example.
George was a member of Congressional Coun-
try Club, Bethesda, Maryland, the Metropolitan
Club, Washington, DC, Caves Valley Country
Club, Baltimore, Maryland, Naples National
Country Club and Colliers Reserve Country
Club in Naples Florida. He was also a member
of All Saint’s Episcopalian Church in Chevy
Chase Maryland and Naples United Church of
Christ in Naples Florida.
George is survived by his wife of 51 years,
Linda; his son, Philip; daughter, Patrice (Mas-
simo); son, George Jr. (Cindy); son, Michael;
daughter, Jennifer; and son, Harry (Catherine);
ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and
his older brother Ralph Jr. (Virginia). George will
be missed by three furry-grandchildren as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph
and Estelle Fellows, and his first wife Lynne
Fellows.
A celebration of Georges life will take place in
Washington DC during the month of December
and he will be interred at Mount Olivet Ceme-
tery in Frederick Maryland. Time and date are

Entered into eternal rest on Monday, October
28, 2019. She is survived by six daughters,

and Margaret I. McKinney; five sons, William F.
Douglas, Jr., James R. and John Louis Williams,
Carl A. and Matthew L. Douglas; one sister,
Mary Lucy Williams; 31 grandchildren; 24 great-
grandchildren and four great-great-grandchil-
dren. She was predeceased by her husband,
William F. Douglas; son, Joseph L. Douglas;

Wife of 62 years of the late Robert A. Yackee,
mother of Ruth Handelsman, John Yackee
and Susan Yackee, and grandmother of six
died October 31, 2019 at Chevy Chase House
at age 98. She was born in Bandera, Texas
May 10, 1921. She was a wonderful mother,
homemaker and the office manager and book-
keeper for her husband's dental practice from
1951 to 1988. She was a resident of DC

RICHARD T.TWIGGER "Dick" (Age 84)
Of Poolesville, MD, died on November 3, 2019.
He was the husband of Judith A.Twigger.
Richard served his country in the United States
Army in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper
and was a firefighter for the District of Colum-
bia reaching the rank of captain.
Surviving besides his wife is one daughter,
Lynda T. D’Amelio and husband Peter of
Poolesville; one brother, Harry Twigger; one
sister, Mary Lou Berger of Poolesville and three
grandchildren, Jami, Ryan and Sam D’Amelio.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard
S.Twigger; two brothers, Gilbert and John Twig-
ger and two sisters, Helen Twigger and Virgin
Posa.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday,
November 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hilton

CHRISTOPHER MICHAEL SMITH
"Smitty" (Age 48)
Of Rockville MD, passed away unexpectedly on
October 24, 2019 at Holy Cross Hospital. Born
on January 29, 1971 to the late Mimi Smith and
the late Arthur Smith, Smitty was a graduate
of Wheaton High School and Towson University
and was self-employed for many years and
took pride in helping his customers. He was
incredibly kindhearted, fun to be around, and
would do anything for anybody.
He is survived by his sister, Cindy (Brian) Kerns
of Jefferson MD; his niece, Megan Kerns and
many lifelong friends. Many thanks to them
and especially Robin Ruddy, the Morris Family
and the Ward family for always being there for
Chris. A private celebration of life service for
family and friends will be held at a later date.

Donald Joseph Rosania (Age 87)
Passed away November 2,20019 quietly during
a nap after a hard fought battle with pancreatic
cancer.
Don was born in 1933 to the late Ada and
Michael Rosania at Chicago Line Hospital in
Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his
first wife Barbara Lee Rosania and daughter
Donna Lou Groomes.
Donald was a scientist and helped to develop
Gillette Research Institute in Rockville, MD,
where he worked for 35 years. Don was
active in numerous civic and professional orga-
nizations including;President of the Rockville
Chamber of Commerce, The United Way Cam-
paign, and a very active church membership
serving the Lord in various capacities including;
Hope Lutheran in Park Forest, IL, The Good
Sheperd in Olney, MD, The Church of the
Resurrection in Surfside Beach and most
recently The Well by the Sea in Myrtle Beach.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Norma I.
Rosania, son in law; Mike Groomes, daughter;
Brenda and husband Mark Bowie, a son; David
and his wife Beverly Rosania, seven grandchil-
dren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, November 9, 2019 at The Well by the
Sea.

Born February 26, 1921 in Washington, DC,
passed away peacefully on Friday, Novem-
ber 1, 2019. She was a longtime resident of
Oakton, VA and most recently of Herndon, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of
42 years, Arthur Lent, Sr., son-in-law, Edward
"Ted" Corcoran and her daughter, Claudia Cor-
coran. She is survived by her son, Arthur Lent,
Jr. (Elaine); two grandsons, Kevin Corcoran
(Katie), David Lent (Cheri); two granddaughters,
Lisa Griffin (Jess), Debora Lamp (Steve); three

CHERI MAUREEN LAMONT
Passed away on November 2, 2019, surround-
ed by her family in Virginia at the age of 71. She
was born in Philadelphia to parents Harry and
Esther Lamont. She graduated from Temple
University with a Master’s Degree in Speech
and Language Pathology. She worked for over
four decades in a practice that truly changed
the lives of countless clients and families with
autism and auditory processing disorders. She
was an accomplished poet (accepted to the
creative writing master’s program at Columbia
University), model (featured on the cover of
multiple magazines including Redbook) and
traveler (once spending two months in France).
She instilled her altruistic, family focus in her
sons Drew and Daniel Harris (both fathers
and medical doctors). She is also survived by
three siblings (Bruce Lamont, Marlene Levy
and Carl Lamont), two daughter-in-laws (Amy
Salerno and Stacey Harris), four grandchildren
(Avery, Reece, Jonah and Nolan Harris) and a
labradoodle Scarlett. A Memorial Service will
be held at Temple Rodef Shaom in Falls Church,
Virginia at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday November 10,

LAMONT


STANLEY DAVID KUO (Age 54)
Died peacefully on October 25, 2019 after a
long bout with colon cancer. Stan graduated
from CalTech at the age of 19 and received his
masters from Harvard in Applied Physics. He
was a statistical analyst at Metron until 2006
and received two patents. Stan studied and
taught competitive ballroom dancing and yoga
with foundations in proper body alignment.
He was a certified Franklin Method Educator
Level 3. Stan is survived by his siblings, Sze-
Ping, Sze-Wen, Scot, and six nephews and
nieces. Stan was loved by many friends and
family members and will be greatly missed. A
celebration of his life will be held next spring.

Md, William “Bill” F. Hillstrom and wife, Donna,

HILLSTROM


DR. ROBERT HARTZMAN
Dr. Robert Hartzman died on
Thursday, October 31, 2019
from complications of heart
bypass surgery. Survived by his
wife, Marlene and son, Alex
(Elizabeth Clare), Dr. Hartzman
was a leading force in unrelated hematopoi-
etic stem cell transplant. He received his
medical degree from the University of Wis-
consin-Madison in 1971, where he worked
with pioneers in the field of transplantation
immunology and genetics. Following his
residency at Dartmouth, Dr. Hartzman was
inducted into the Navy, where he per-
formed bone marrow transplants at the
Naval Medical Center and Naval Medical
Research Center. He established the C.W.
Bill Young Marrow Donor Recruitment and

Dr. Hartzman's work will live on through
the one million donors recruited into the

DORIS WILSON HANN (Age 91)
Passed away on November 3, 2019 of natural
causes. Doris was born in Alexandria, Virginia
to the late John and Margaret Wilson. In
addition to her parents she was predeceased
by her husband Warren E. Hann, Jr. and her
daughter Katherine Hann Gilbert. She retired
from the United States Department of the
Treasury after years of service. She was
intelligent, feisty and loved her family. She
enjoyed genealogy and was a devoted fan
of the Washington Redskins. She is survived
by two granddaughters: Melissa G. McArthur
(Thomas),Amanda G. Lipsky (Darryle) and three
great-grandchildren, Athena, Zoey and Triton.
She will be laid to rest at Mount Comfort
Cemetery.

RICHARD ARAN GOLDBERG (Age 83)
Died on November 2, 2019 at home
in Silver Spring, MD after a long
illness.
He leaves his beloved wife of 53
years, Paula (Erlick) Goldberg; his
daughter, Lisa Goldberg and her
husband, Stefan Gunther; his
granddaughter Andi; his sister, Bonnie Lewis;
and many other relatives and close friends.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Lawrence
Goldberg.
Dr. Goldberg was born in Boston to parents
Samuel and Ida Goldberg and raised in Swamp-
scott, Massachusetts. He graduated from
Swampscott High School in 1953 and from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1957
with a B.S. in Physics. He graduated from Penn
State University with a Ph.D. in Physics in 1963.
In 1963, he began his career at the NASA
Goddard Space Flight Center as a physicist
and rocket scientist. He worked at NASA for
50 years until his retirement in 2013. He
conducted scientific studies of the middle
and upper atmosphere and ionosphere using
sounding rockets. International partnerships
led to projects around the world, including
Sweden, Norway, Peru, Brazil, India and Spain.
He co-authored numerous scientific papers,
along with the book Sun, Weather and Climate
in 1978.
Dr. Goldberg loved to travel and immersed
himself in the culture of each place he visited.
He particularly enjoyed trying new foods and
meeting new people. He also earned a pilot’s
license and owned a Cessna with two friends.
He appreciated music throughout his life and
was a gifted photographer.
The Goldberg Family expresses its heartfelt
thanks to the devoted caregivers and JSSA
Hospice staff who thoughtfully cared for
Richard and his family.
