Her Netflix series “Tidying Up with

Now, the Japanese organizing con-

Well, it’s “under consideration,” Kondo
told USA TODAY.
We talked with the organizing guru
to learn more about her new book and
how parents can teach kids to “GO TO
YOUR ROOM AND CLEAN UP THIS
MESS!”
Spoiler alert! That is not the right
method.
Edited for length and clarity.Question: What is “Kiki & Jax”
about?
Answer:The book is not just about
tidying up. The most important theme
of the book is about friendship. It is
about two good friends and through ti-
dying up, their friendship actually
deepens. That’s the biggest point.Q: What are some tips you have
for parents who want their kids to be
more organized?

KONMARI MEDIA INC.NEW YORK – Kerry Washington wants to get people talking withher new Netflix film “American Son.” zThe topical drama (nowstreaming) is adapted from Christopher Demos-Brown’s play, which the “Scandal”actress performed on Broadway last winterwith Steven Pasquale (FX’s “Rescue Me”). Set entirely inside apolice station, the story unfolds late one night as frantic momKendra Ellis-Connor (Washington) and her estranged white hus-band, Scott (Pasquale), search for answers about the mysteriousdisappearance of their teenage son.Racial profiling and class issues
boil to the surface as a white cop
(Jeremy Jordan) casually brushes
off Kendra’s concerns about a po-
tential police shooting. Later, Ken-
dra and Scott go toe-to-toe over
their perceived successes and fail-
ings as parents of a mixed-race
child, debating the importance of
his prep-school education, friend
group and appearance.
Reading the script for the first
time, “I thought it was so probing
and provocative and explosive and
moving,” says Washington, also an
executive producer of both versions
of the project. She wanted to bringthe story to Netflix because “this
conversation about our community
and how we coexist and love each
other across cultural divides is (one)
that should be had by everyone all
over the world.”
Washington, 42, chats with USA

Son,” which was filmed on a Brook-
lyn sound stage earlier this year, and
how her own experiences informed
the character.Question: “American Son” tack-
