Marie Kondo has fascinated the
world with her KonMari method of
cleaning up and her impressive ability
to fold anything into tiny organized
packages.
Her Netflix series “Tidying Up with
Marie Kondo”has people rushing to
thrift shops and consignment stores
with all their things that no longer
“spark joy.”
Now, the Japanese organizing con-
sultant is bringing her “life-changing”
ideas to the kids. YES!
Her new book “Kiki & Jax”teaches
children tidying up through friendship
and is inspired by her two daughters’
love of books. It is available Tuesday
and preorders have begun.
Kondo is launching an online store
of joy-enhancing products in Novem-
ber.And about a Netflix season 2?
Well, it’s “under consideration,” Kondo
told USA TODAY.
We talked with the organizing guru
to learn more about her new book and
how parents can teach kids to “GO TO
YOUR ROOM AND CLEAN UP THIS
MESS!”
Spoiler alert! That is not the right
method.
Edited for length and clarity.
Question: What is “Kiki & Jax”
about?
Answer:The book is not just about
tidying up. The most important theme
of the book is about friendship. It is
about two good friends and through ti-
dying up, their friendship actually
deepens. That’s the biggest point.
Q: What are some tips you have
for parents who want their kids to be
more organized?
A:Having fun while tidying up is

NEW YORK – Kerry Washington wants to get people talking with
her new Netflix film “American Son.” zThe topical drama (now
streaming) is adapted from Christopher Demos-Brown’s play,
which the “Scandal”actress performed on Broadway last winter
with Steven Pasquale (FX’s “Rescue Me”). Set entirely inside a
police station, the story unfolds late one night as frantic mom
Kendra Ellis-Connor (Washington) and her estranged white hus-
band, Scott (Pasquale), search for answers about the mysterious
disappearance of their teenage son.
Racial profiling and class issues
boil to the surface as a white cop
(Jeremy Jordan) casually brushes
off Kendra’s concerns about a po-
tential police shooting. Later, Ken-
dra and Scott go toe-to-toe over
their perceived successes and fail-
ings as parents of a mixed-race
child, debating the importance of
his prep-school education, friend
group and appearance.
Reading the script for the first
time, “I thought it was so probing
and provocative and explosive and
moving,” says Washington, also an
executive producer of both versions
of the project. She wanted to bring
the story to Netflix because “this
conversation about our community
and how we coexist and love each
other across cultural divides is (one)
that should be had by everyone all
over the world.”
Washington, 42, chats with USA
TODAY about Netflix’s “American
Son,” which was filmed on a Brook-
lyn sound stage earlier this year, and
how her own experiences informed
the character.

The comedian addressed his Sept. 1
car crash in a video obtained by TMZ,
assuring viewers he was on the road
to recovery. “I’m feeling great.
Blessed to be alive,” he said. “It’s
going to take some time, but I’m
patient.” He added he would return to
performing “in time,” but right now is
focused on “relaxing” and time with
family. Hart, 40, broke his silence on
the accident last week, telling fans in
an Instagram video about working to
recover from his back injury. “My
world was forever changed,” he said.
