The need to build on recent progress
The challenge of cancer is therefore
substantial in the region. With highly
diverse demographic and socioeconomic
characteristics, each country will require a
careful review of its own needs to prepare a
strategic response to the disease. The region
has achieved significant progress in expanding
access to healthcare, especially the most
underprivileged. The next years should focus
on closing all access gaps and improving the
quality of those services.
The next chapters of this report will examine
how countries in Latin America are preparing
for the war against cancer from a systemic
perspective that involves policy and planning,
care delivery, and healthcare systems and
governance.
