Viscountess Weymouth is having a rather

exceptional party season. For starters, there’s her

turn on Strictly Come Dancing, an experience she

likens to being in a “glittering, sequin-filled

dreamland”; then there’s the fact that Longleat –

her primary residence, and home to the first safari

park outside Africa – has been transformed for the

festive period, with miles of Christmas lights and

illuminated sculptures dotted around the 9,000-acre

estate. “There’s really no typical day when it comes

to managing Longleat,” says the 33-year-old mother

of two. “I might be building out our conservation

programme for endangered red pandas, or giving

the rhinos a bath in the Wiltshire mud – their

absolute favourite.” Among her recent projects? A

line of homeware and sweets inspired by Longleat’s

kitchens – which have served 14 generations of

her husband’s family with everything from home-

grown pineapples to ice cream made using

frozen blocks of the nearby River Wylye.

“The history of Longleat constantly

inspires me,” she adds. “It’s such an

honour to be its caretaker. It never

wears off, the magic of the place.”
