’Tis the Season
Early awards contend-
ers including Charlize
Theron (3), Shia LaBeouf
and Al Pacino (1) tried on
their acceptance speeches
at the 23rd Hollywood
Film Awards. “I don’t know
if it’s irony or serendip-
ity,” Pacino said from
the Beverly Hilton stage,
beside presenter Francis
Ford Coppola, “but The
Irishman is playing at New
York ’s B e lasc o Th e ate r
— I made my Broadway
debut [there] and this
man here [Coppola] saw
me in that play 50 years
ago, and gave me the part
of Michael Corleone.”
Serendipity continued to
be a theme throughout
the night. “You know those
opportunities that come
along in your life and they
initially seem to make no
sense at all but they end
up among one of your
greatest life experi-
ences?” Renée Zellweger
said of making Judy.
Other honorees included
Cynthia Erivo (2), Antonio
Banderas and Bong Joon

Home Sweet Home
Hosted and chaired by
La La Land producer
Gary Gilbert (10) and
his wife, Charlotte (8), at
their Beverly Hills home,
A Sense of Home’s first
Backyard Bowl celebrated
the organization’s fifth
year working to prevent
homelessness by creating
homes for kids aging out
of foster care. Master
of ceremonies Jamie
Foxx (10) introduced
interior designer and
chef Georgie Smith,
co-founder of ASOH
with producer Melissa
Goddard. Shawn Levy
took the stage to present
honorees Irena Medavoy,
Nicole Avant (8), Te d
Sarandos (8) and Jennifer
Flavin Stallone (9), among
others. The evening raised
more than $500,000,
with Leonardo DiCaprio
leading the charge for
donations. “What do you
need?” he shouted, upping
the stakes before catching
the Lakers game on his
iPhone with a group of
basketball fans. “It’s hard
to believe how far we’ve
come,” said Medavoy. “Now
here we are 500 houses
later, giving homes to
people for the first time.”
