On the coast of Rhode Island, a

New England shingle-style man-

sion just two doors down from

the oft-photographed home of pop

star Taylor Swift has sold for

$17.6 million.

The deal is the second-highest

residential sale ever recorded in

the state, according to the listing

agent—just shy of the record es-

tablished by Ms. Swift’s $17.75

million purchase in 2013.

The seller is Kevin Wendle, who

said he bought the property as an

investment and spends most of

his time in Tulum, Mexico, where

he owns the Hotel Esencia. He

noted that Ms. Swift once brought

over some freshly baked cookies

as a housewarming gift.

Mr. Wendle, 61, said he paid

about $9.8 million for the Watch

Hill home in 2013. A home flipper,
he embarked on a multiyear reno-
vation, tapping New York designer
Giancarlo Valle to reimagine the
10,000-square-foot home, which
dates to the turn of the century.
The interior of the nine-bed-
room house was gutted and re-
configured, while the original de-
tails of the exterior were
preserved. The home has large
open-plan living spaces with At-
lantic Ocean views and a distinc-
tive marine-blue library. Mr. Wen-
dle also added an outdoor,
limestone pool.
Mr. Wendle said that he and his
husband, Sebastian Uribe, have
brought their two children to the
property on weekends and for
summers, but they haven’t spent

always intended to ultimately sell.

He has previously bought and

flipped homes in California and in

France, he said.

The buyer is Paul Cappuccio, a

former Time Warner executive

who now works for a start-up. Mr.

Cappuccio said he and his hus-

band, Matt Shea, and their three

children will use the property as a

summer home. Their primary

home is in Greenwich, Conn.
