Gettysburg National Military Park
The largest battle ever waged in the
Western Hemisphere was fought here on
July 1–3, 1863. The Union victory was a
major turning point in the war, ending
General Lee’s invasion of the North.
The battle inspired President Abraham
Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address,
which he delivered at the dedication
of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery.
