After-dark
elegance
The party season is the
perfect time to dial up your
glamour. The make-up artist
Polly Osmond shares her
advice for a sophisticated look
with a red-carpet twist
The base
‘For long-wearing
coverage, I opt
for a satin-finish
foundation that makes
the skin look radiant,’
says Osmond. Choose
a product that glides on
weightlessly and blurs
imperfections. ‘I apply
foundation using my
fingers,’ she adds. ‘The
warmth of my hands
helps to give the base
a more natural look.’
The prep
‘When prepping the
skin for make-up, try
not to put everything
on all at once. Leave
a little time between
applying moisturiser
and your primer or
foundation, so that
the product can settle
into the skin,’ advises
Osmond. Look for
a hydrating primer
that will give the skin
a healthy glow that
lasts all night.
The eyes
‘For fabulous eyes, all
you need is a good
liner, a gel shadow
and a great mascara,’
says Osmond. ‘To
create a slick cat-eye
flick, use the eyeliner
as a base, then add
the liquid shadow on
top, before finishing
with plenty of
mascara. It’s really
that easy.’
The lips
‘Applying a stain that’s
slightly darker than
your lip colour is a more
natural-looking way to
enhance lips than using
a liner. You can wear
it on its own or even
underneath a lipstick,’
says Osmond. To get
the look, simply blot
with your fingers for a
sof t sta in, or choose
a heavily pigmented
shade to give a more
dramatic finish.
