National Day

of Adventure

ON FRIDAYOctober 14 we will remind all of you of your God-
given right to ditch out of work to raft hike learn how to surf
ortakeamotorcycletour—basicallyto doany funoutdoors
thing you’ve been putting off. It’s a skip day for adults and here
are 14 of the best single-day adventures that will turn your sick
day into asick! day.

The 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail encircles
the largest alpine lake in North America.
The 25-mile section from Tahoe
Meadows detours into the 5.5-mile
Flume Trail one of the most spectacular
two-wheel adventures in the world.

In summer Chequamegon-Nicolet
National Forest becomes a web of more
than 300 miles of singletrack through
Northwoods forest. It’s a choose-your-
own MTB adventure but the popular
27-mile Rock Lake Epic is a sure thing.

The 469-mile highway along the crest
of the southern Appalachians has wild
views and notorious climbs (a road ride
will feel much longer than it is). From
Asheville there are a dozen or more
options for a doable if stiff challenge.

The AMGEN Tour of California is the
closest thing the U.S. has to the Tour de
France attracting the world’s top riders.
And one particular stage — 134 miles
between Morro Bay and Monterey — is
a bucket-list road ride any time of year.
