Just like us, you can’t get
enough delicious
reticulated python. Not
that you have much
choice, as this game whisks you
back to the Cold War ’60s and a
sweltering Soviet jungle. Rations
are in short supply as you try to
keep Naked Snake alive by any
means possible. These survival
sensibilities are perfectly suited
for a game that ditched the Soliton
Radar in favour of a camo system.
Stealth had never been fresher,
and in The End, PlayStation never
had a better boss fight.

How the West was fun...
one magnificently nailed
cowboy trope at a time.
Recreating a sense of
time and place that’s thoroughly,
immediately convincing, Red Dead
Redemption is a playable, epic take
on every Western fantasy you ever
had as a kid. Gamers aren’t into
cowboys? Hah! Well, all it needed
was one beautifully judged map to
change that opinion forever. And
c’mon, who isn’t now head over
heels for John Marston? If you’ve
finally managed to finish Red Dead
Redemption 2 and want more, cast
your eye over this PS Now entry.

Covered in guts and gore,
this back-to-basics
approach for Doom
revitalised the series. In
an era with a lot of shooters, the
simplicity of the ‘push forward’
gameplay once again feels fresh.
The best thing to do when taking
on hordes of demons is to stay on
the move, especially as finishing
them off in mind-bogglingly gory
ways rewards you with things like
extra health and ammo. Ranked
high on this PS Now list because of
its PS4-powered thrills, this is
what the service was made for.

We here at team OPM need little excuse to
return to Yharnam. This classic inclusion on
PlayStation Now is an especially good reason
though. While this is just the base game sans
the superb Old Hunters DLC, it more than stands on its
own. Methodical, tough-but-fair combat together with
a story that borrows liberally from weird fiction and
cosmic horror is the perfect pairing. That is to say,
proceedings are decidedly Lovecraftian without falling
into the same pitfalls we see all too commonly; rather
than being a straight-up adaptation, FromSoftware
brings more than a few of its own original ideas to the
table while still maintaining that distinct, ahem, HP
source flavour. If you crave a soulsborne with a deep
sense of place and lore that’s as satisfying to uncover
as its combat is to master, then look no further.

This final game in the core Arkham trilogy
takes everything we love about the series –
metroidvania influences, smart writing, fun
gadgets, gratifying melee combat, DC
character cameos – and turns it up a notch. And you
get to drive Rocksteady’s take on the Batmobile; a
divisive decision. We love the tank-like Batmobile, and
Arkham City has never looked better, whether seen
from behind the wheel or gliding above. This
blockbuster delivers everything you could want from
the series, and offers a villain who not only wants to
defeat Batman but also the idea of Batman. It’s a big,
beautiful experience littered with fan-service nods and
winks. The only downside is this PS Now inclusion is
the core game – to get the full Arkham Knight
experience you’ll need to buy the DLC, but it’s worth it.

Before Arkham Asylum,
the concept of a ‘good
tie-in’ was borderline
laughable. With Batman
horribly crowbarred into all
manner of shameless cash-ins on
PlayStations past, few expected
this to be even a passable take on
the Caped Crusader’s adventures,
let alone one of the most important
licensed games in history.
One-note boss battles are the only
wayward batarang in a tightly-
paced, astonishingly realised love
letter to the caped one.

Uncharted 2 is PlayStation 3’s blockbuster showpiece. On PS Now you can replay that opening mission and ascend
a mountainside train wreck before being guided around an impossibly serene village after some of the most
bone-jarring firefights your thumbs ever survived, caressing your cerebral cortex like a warm blanket, assuring you
that gaming really has come that close to perfection. If this were the PS4 remaster it would feature higher.

I’m pretty amazed
that WipEout
didn’t feature
at all in any of
its incarnations
across all five
PlayStation formats! It was
the definitive game on the PS1
that perfectly summed up the
PlayStation experience, which
means this should really be on
PS Now. Sony should add the
PS4’s version, complete with
PS VR support as the headset
also needs some love on PS
Now. Rant aside, this is still a
great list and shows how far
the streaming service has come
since launch.
